what it actually does

Four controls. Not four hundred.

Chroma is deliberately small. It does the handful of things that make footage look graded, and it refuses to grow into a second editing suite you have to learn.

Three-way wheels that behave

3 wheels

Lift, gamma and gain, with the response curve tuned so a small nudge is a small change. Most plugins make the first 10% of the wheel do 80% of the damage.

One curve, on the luminance

1 curve

A single tone curve with a live histogram underneath it. Drag a point and you can see exactly which part of the frame you are moving.

Presets you can take apart

40 looks

Forty starting looks, and every one of them opens into the wheels and the curve that made it. Nothing is a locked black box you cannot learn from.

Scopes that fit on the screen

2 scopes

Waveform and vectorscope docked in the panel, sized for a laptop rather than a colour suite with three monitors.
