What the plugin sends, and what we keep.

Short version: the plugin does not phone home while you work, and we hold the minimum needed to sell you a licence and let you back into the community.

last updated 27 august 2026

What the plugin itself sends
A licence check when you enter a key, and again roughly once a month to confirm the key is still valid. That request contains the key and a machine fingerprint — no footage, no project data, no file names, no telemetry about what you are grading. If you are offline the plugin keeps working; it simply retries later.
What we collect when you buy
Name, email and billing country. The card itself is handled by our payment processor and never touches our servers — we receive a token and the last four digits so you can identify the transaction on an invoice.
The academy and the community
If you have the bundle we store which lessons you have marked complete, and whatever you post in the community. Progress is there so you can pick up where you left off; you can wipe it from your account page at any time without losing access.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Contract, for anything needed to give you the licence and the courses you paid for. Consent, for marketing email — withdrawn with one click in any message we send. Legitimate interests, for the licence check that stops the plugin being shared indefinitely.
Who else sees it
Our payment processor, our email provider and our hosting provider, all under data-processing agreements, all in the UK, the EEA, or covered by an approved transfer mechanism. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising pixels on the checkout, and no automated decision is made about you.
How long we keep it
Purchase records for six years, because tax law requires it. Community posts until you delete them or close your account. Course progress until you wipe it. Support email for two years, then deleted.
What you can ask for
A copy of everything we hold, a correction, deletion, or a machine-readable export — free, answered within 30 days. Email hello@chroma.example. If you are unhappy with the answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
A session cookie so the checkout works and a login cookie for the community. Optional analytics that tell us which pages get read, which you can decline without anything on the site behaving differently. No advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking.
